Overview

GPSTech is a connected-device platform built around real-time vehicle tracking and fleet management.

The system brings together device communication, telemetry processing, geospatial data, backend APIs, web administration, and user-facing applications.

What I built

The platform spans several layers of the system:

  • Backend APIs and domain services
  • Device communication and telemetry processing
  • Real-time GPS data pipelines
  • Geospatial data and map infrastructure
  • Web-based administration
  • Authentication and authorization
  • Device access and permission management
  • Vehicle and fleet management

Engineering challenges

The interesting part of the project is not any individual feature, but the interaction between multiple systems.

A GPS point can originate from a physical tracking device, pass through a device protocol handler, be processed by backend services, persisted as geospatial data, and eventually appear on a live map.

That requires careful handling of:

  • connection state
  • unreliable device communication
  • telemetry frequency
  • authorization boundaries
  • geospatial queries
  • real-time updates
  • historical data

Architecture

The backend is built around NestJS services and Go-based device communication, with PostgreSQL handling relational and geospatial data and Redis supporting communication between services.

The web administration layer is built with Next.js and provides operational interfaces for managing devices, users, vendors, vehicles, alarms, and related platform functionality.

Result

The result is a full-stack GPS platform where the device protocol, backend infrastructure, data layer, and user interface are designed as parts of the same system rather than isolated applications.
